Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee

To assist the college in serving “a student population diverse in many facets of identity and experience, including race, ethnicity, age, disability, educational background, veteran status, and LGBTQ identity, among many others. support equitable educational opportunities across all student populations, including those from traditionally underserved or marginalized student populations.” To help foster “equity and a life of learning in an inclusive environment for the evolving, diverse communities” Western Nevada College serves. To help maintain the college’s “focus on equity and inclusion [in order to] affirm support of every student’s success.” To promote a diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment, where faculty, staff and all employees can expect a safe and supportive work environment, and where employees are provided equal opportunities to excel in their roles. To pursue policies and practices that ensure a fair and competitive hiring process that seeks the most qualified candidates from the most diverse group of applicants possible.

The mission of the DEI Committee is to support diversity, equity and inclusion in alignment with the WNC College Strategic Plan. A guiding principle of the DEI Committee will be to uphold the idea that no policy concerning DEI at WNC should be decided or modified without the full and direct participation of members of the group(s) affected by that policy.

The Committee will identify one or more annual goals to help foster “equity and a life of learning in an inclusive environment for the evolving, diverse communities we serve.” The committee will present its annual goal(s) to College Council by November of each year.
