Emergency Medical Services

Emergency Medical Services
The Emergency Medical Services program at Western Nevada College is designed to prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes necessary to function as entry-level Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). This comprehensive program equips students to respond effectively in emergency situations and provide life-saving pre-hospital care to patients in need.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for both the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) and the State of Nevada EMT certification exams. The curriculum meets or exceeds the standards established by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Office of EMS, adhering to the National EMS Education Standards and Instructional Guidelines. Through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on training, and real-world simulations, students will gain the competencies required to begin a rewarding career in emergency medical services.
To work as an EMT you need to successfully complete an EMT Program, pass the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam, obtain a current CPR card, and obtain state licensure. In Nevada, after passing the NREMT exam you must apply and obtain a state certification from the Nevada Department of Public and Behavioral Health.
