Career Fair ‘Links’ Students to Local Employers
Mar 12, 2025
The Career Fair on March 12 linked Western Nevada College students with businesses in the community.
Western Nevada College students and local employers benefited from a Career Fair on March 12 that was held in a new learning space ideal for this purpose. As many as 30 employers were present for this critical workforce training and networking event in The Link, located in the Aspen Building on the Carson City campus.
"We really appreciate that 30 employers in our region devoted their time to participate in introducing many of our students to workforce training in our new career services learning space," said WNC President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe. "Their efforts have provided important insight into gaining meaningful employment in the future and provided them with an introduction to the gifted and accomplished students that we have on our campuses."
The platform on Wednesday provided students with the opportunity to explore employment options, networking directly with potential employers and presenting the possibility of being hired on the spot.
“It was cool to learn about businesses that I didn’t know existed,” said WNC student Trina Hoffer. “I talked to every single business that was here.”
WNC business student Denise Velazquez said she enjoyed talking to a University of Nevada, Reno representative about future opportunities and benefits at the university, as well as internships and employment that are available through some of the attending businesses.
“It was a new opportunity to learn about different programs in the community that can be beneficial,” she said.
Employers represented many industries, including education, military, law enforcement, human resources, transportation, healthcare, construction, automotive, recreation, utility, financial, nonprofits, and more.
“This Spring 2025 Career Fair is to connect students with employers for networking and career opportunities, both during their studies and after graduation,” said WNC Career Services Specialist Christopher Croft.
Participating community employers included Alpine County Schools, American First Credit Union, Bridgestone (Tires Plus), Briggs Electric, Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space, Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Carson Tahoe Health, Carson Valley Health, El Dorado County Probation, Enterprise Mobility, Evolve Lubricants Inc., Fastenal, Feeding Pets of the Homeless, ITS Logistics, Mt. Grant General Hospital, Nevada Air National Guard, Nevada Chapter-Associated General Contractors, Northern Nevada Electrical Training Center, NV Energy, Pellett Construction, Reno Orthopedic Center, Skiing is Believing, State of Nevada Division of Human Resources Management, State of Nevada DPBH Rural Clinics, State of Nevada Department of Conservation & Natural Resources, University Police Department, University of Nevada, Reno Human Resources and U.S. Army.
More than anything, the Career Fair on Wednesday helped students form a “link” with area employers.
“This inaugural use highlights The Link’s intended purpose as a central hub for career development and employer networking on campus,” Croft said. “This is especially meaningful because it's the first time an event of this kind was hosted in this newly established space designed specifically to facilitate career connections and community engagement.”
